Munich (german: Muenchen), area 310 km², population 1 210 000, capital of the federal state of bavaria
The origins of Munich goes back to a settlement of monks from the Kloster Schaeftlarn (Schaeftlarn Abbey) on the Petersbergl, Munich was first documentary mentioned 1158 as "Villa Munichen", town privileges were granted 1175 and the first fortifications where constructed.
Duke Albrecht IV of Bavaria made Munich the capital town of Bavaria in 1506 and became a center of renaissance time.
