Trier was founded in 16 BC by romans as Augusta Treverorum and is the oldest town of Germany. Trier is Archbishopric town and bishops are documented from about 250 AD, Trier was destroyed by alemannic tribes in 275, reconstructed and became a residence of the western roman emperors, named Treveris at that time, from 292 - 392. Parts of the old town of Trier are an UNESCO World heritage site.
